Chief expects to know about the side by side grant next month. He reported writing 2 FEMA grants for a new water tender and new extrication equipment, equivalent to about $750,000. He is looking at a new FEMA grant that e will be applying for that would provide 2 new command vehicles and new radios and portable repeaters to be able to use their radios anywhere in their response area. There are currently dead zones near Hoover Dam.
Chief reported 3 candidates have started testing for the 3 open Captain positions. Volunteer and paid personnel have completed 161.8 hours of training.
Chief Bonnee reported that LMRFD is next up for a type 6 engine for Wildland response. The ambulances are off the roster for out of state deployments due to new narcotics rulings that don't allow cross border transport without being a licenses CEP in the state being visited. He he can still send BLS ambulance which has no narcotics and is paid the same. He said the Arizona Fire Chief's Association is working with DEA to get an affidavit to cross state lines approved for Wildland Fire response.
Chief clarified that no full time personnel are deployed on Wildland calls, POC's (part time) only.
He reported that the ambulance crew was on the Hwy 93 fatality for 7 1/2 hours as they had to wait for the tow company to lift the semi off the vehicle so the ambulance crew could get to the victims to extricate them from the wreckage. AZ DPS also had to complete their investigation before anybody or anything could be moved. The crew then had to respond immediately to a structure fire.
